angler's access trail |
August 18, 2007 - Mileage posts have been installed. Starting at the main parking kiosk, which is considered the trail head for the Anglers Access Trail, mileage post every 1/2 mile assist the hiker with their pace. The trail measures 4.0 miles. Wildlife and nature plant life signs have been placed around the trail. The benches are all installed and the County Grant project has been completed. December 9/10, 2006 - We're rolling right along! See the recent work at the attached slideshow. This weekend was our first "c-cold morning" workdays. About 15 volunteers gathered once again. The Tressler Care group are still chipping away at the "goat trail." Additional clearings were made on the east side at the bridge crossing. Bridge construction began on the Red Oak. A crib box support was created, leveling the log somewhat. Then steps were created to allow comfortable access on and off the bridge. Deck boards and a hand rail were created and the project is nearly complete. Check back frequently to find out more.November 11/12, 2006 - After many requests, the FOLC trail committee held it's second "Trail Day!" This day was perfect weather and made for a wonderful day to work on the trail. Despite some rain earlier in the week, we still managed to get a lot done. Besides the trash clean-up, we had teams complete the trail marking along Opossum Lake Drive, towards the water's edge, and teams working on a few stream/inlet crossings. Last, but not least...Thanks to the Tressler Care group. They continued along the "goat trail" on the south side of the eastern finger. Much work has been done and we are awaiting paperwork to continue with construction of some bridges. We hope you can join us in December for more clean-up and bridge work. The following trail map will help you to understand our efforts in planning and the work day surrounding the trail. You may click on the various trail sections to see the workers and the trail itself. If you like what you see, please send us some feedback.

This date marked a first major milestone in establishing the existing fisherman's trail into a well established, completely encompassing trail system for everyone to enjoy. It is now formally knows as the "Angler's Access Trail." We would like to thank all the volunteers who gave their time and sweat to make this day a success! Special thanks to Tressler Care, Starbucks, Sen. Pat Vance, Rep. Will Gabig, Commissioner Rovegno, Twp. Supervisor Tim Lush, and Tom Ford of the PA Fish & Boat Commission.
