Donation for Dirt Effort!

This is the YEAR!  PERMITS ARE SIGNED!  This means that the bidding of this project can begin in the June timeframe, and construction could begin in the Fall.  We've waiting a long time for this news, and as the saying goes... "Better Late Than Never!"

May 15, 2010 - FOLC held it's 3rd Annual Membership Meeting at the lake to celebrate 4 years of FOLC activity.  It was a proud moment as the Township dedicated the pavilion to late Tim Lush.  He was a township supervisor and a main player in standing up for the lake.  Sadly he passed away one year into the efforts of getting the lake restored!  We had a great reception of family and friends at the lake - an awesome tribute to the overall efforts that the community is doing to see the lake restored.

Recognition of Tim Lush

Thanks to John W. Gleim, Inc. for the 4 beautiful trees!

Mission - Friends of Opossum Lake is a non-profit organization committed to restoring and preserving the lake through working collaboratively with the Township, County, the Fish and Boat Commission, the Department of Environmental Protection and the State Legislature.

Repairing the Dam - The estimate for rebuilding the 46-year-old lake is approximately $3 million - part of an $83 million statewide backlog of major impoundment upgrades needed on state-owned dams the Commission manages. Opossum Lake is emblematic of many of those aging dams: built to the standard of the day, they are reaching the end of the useful lifespan and need reconstructed to modern safety standards. Along with Opossum Lake, the Commission has partially or totally dewatered five other impoundments across the state: Ingham Spring Dam, Bucks County; Upper Hereford Manor Lake, Beaver County; Leaser Lake, Lehigh County; Colyer Lake, Centre County; and Dutch Fork Lake, Washington County.  (2005)

The lake was back...

In March, 2008, after about 3" of rain,

the spillway looked like itself once again.

Perhaps this was the final time it will flow - as we

know and remember it.  Perhaps not!
